Adhesives
Wolkem’s Calcite is used in the manufacture of adhesives & sealants as cost effective filler.
Calcite extends extra ordinary results in different Silylated Polyurethane (SPU) Sealants, those are based on different polymers like Silicon’s, Polycrylates, Polyurethanes and Polysulfides etc. Calcite increases the strength of the Sealant due to its higher specific surface area. This increases tear strength among all finer fillers, this can be loaded at high PHRs. Resulting in significant reduction in polymer demand, GCC also reduces the dispersing time of sealant. GCC increases specific surface area for better mechanical properties and slump resistance leads to general rheological behaviours.
Wollastonite is used in adhesives to improve various properties like mechanical strength, durability, and rheology control. It acts as a filler, enhancing the adhesive’s overall performance.
How Wollastonite Improves Adhesive Properties:
Mechanical Strength
Wollastonite's acicular (needle-like) shape and high aspect ratio contribute to increased tensile and flexural strength, especially in structural adhesives.
Rheology Control
The acicular particles of wollastonite impact the viscosity of the adhesive, allowing for better control during application.
Durability and Stability
Wollastonite can improve the adhesive's resistance to high temperatures, moisture, and chemical exposure, enhancing its long-term performance
Reduced Resin Consumption
Wollastonite can replace some of the resin in the adhesive formulation, potentially lowering costs while maintaining performance.
Acoustic Damping
Wollastonite can improve the sound-absorbing properties of adhesives.
Improved Chemical Resistance
Wollastonite can synergize with anti-corrosive pigments, enhancing the adhesive's resistance to chemical attack.
Biological Properties:
In dental adhesives, wollastonite can improve the bioactivity of the adhesive, promoting mineral deposition and bond stability.
Specific Applications of Wollastonite in Adhesives
Structural Adhesives
